Interview:
~ Can you share with us your latest news?

Loose Id recently released Body Politics, A Rod and Cane Society domestic discipline erotic romance. A feminist is fixed up on a blind date with a member of the Rod and Cane Society, an organisation of men who discipline their women by spanking. I loved the conflict of having two strong characters with naturally opposing goals.
~ Where do you get most of your inspiration from?
Body Politics grew out of my experience as a feminist who writes about dominant men spanking women.
~ Out of your novels, Which one have you done the most research for?
They're all about same, really. In each one, I have to check certain facts. For Body Politics, I researched feminist slogans, anal plugs, makes of automobiles, and sexual harassment law.
~ Out of all your characters experiences are any based on your own?
My characters are fictitious, but I do use bits and piece of my own experience. My background as a feminist came in handy with Body Politics. In False Pretenses (Rod and Cane Society book 2), I'd had similar jobs to Emma Dupree, the heroine.
~ Who is your favourite author and why?
This is a tough one. I like different authors for different reasons. Some, I enjoy their writing. Some have very creative stories. Some are well-known, but others are just getting started. And some are friends. Therein lies the rub. I would hate to mention some and inadvertently omit others, so I'll remain mum on this one. I do keep a list of books (Recommended Reads) on my blog of books I've enjoyed.
~ Which song best fits your personality in writing?
There’s a country western song sung by Kathy Mattea called, The Cape, about a kid who climbs up onto the garage with a flour sack. Convinced he can fly, he’s going to jump off. The message of the song is that life is a leap of faith, “always trust your cape.” As a writer, you have to trust your cape, that you can do it, you will make it.
~ Do you have a motto for when you’re writing? Focus on the reader.
~ What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Learn your craft. Seek to improve your writing. Don't give up, but recognise when something isn't working and change course. Always trust your cape. J
~ Is there anything I haven't asked which you wish I had?
Well, I'd like to talk a little about the Rod and Cane Society series. Rod and Cane is a secret organisation of men who spank their wives to maintain discipline in the home. In Unexpected Consequences, a naive bride marries a member of the society, but doesn't find out until after the wedding what it's all about. In False Pretenses, an aspiring journalist goes undercover at the society looking for a big story and finds outs her new boyfriend is member. And in Body Politics, a women's libber is fixed up on a blind date with a Society member. All the books can be read as stand-alones, and more are planned.
~ Is there anything specific you'd like to say to readers? Yes, to those who have bought my books, a heartfelt, thank you! It means a lot to me. My goal to write an entertaining story that leaves my readers feeling good.
Favourites:
Film: I have two: Flashdance and Four Seasons.
TV Season/Series: Modern Family (a sit com that features a" traditional" husband and wife, two gay guys with an adopted baby, and May/December couple from different cultures.
Blog/Website: www.mybottomsmarts.com - a great resource for spanking information (and a lot of bdsm blog links too)
Shop: I’ve never been asked this! Wasn’t sure quite what you meant (Sex shop? Clothing store?) I do a lot of shopping online so I’d have to say Amazon.
BDSM:
What do you think of BDSM? I think sexual expression covers a wide range of behaviours and feelings and one person's kink is another person's normal. As a romance genre, it can be quite romantic because the focus is often on the woman’s pleasure.
Have ever tried it? What was your experience? I write domestic discipline, which could be considered "bdsm lite." I've done my research, but I won't say how much of it is "book learning" and how much is "hands-on."
Naughty or Nice? Nice and Naughty.
About Body Politics:
Feminist Stephanie Gordon knows the instant she meets blind date Mark DeLuca it’s going to be a wasted evening. Sure the deputy chief of police is criminally sexy, but he's arrogant, domineering and sexist. Thank goodness after the date ends, she'll never have to see him again. A member of the Rod and Cane Society, an organization of men who discipline their women by spanking, Mark DeLuca is attracted to Stephanie like a paddle to a well-rounded ass. He sees beneath the shield of feminist militancy to the soft, sensitive woman she tries to hide. When she storms away in a snit, the chase is on. Can a man who spanks convince a diehard feminist her true strength lies in submission?
Excerpt
“Please, sit down. You and I need to talk.” Mark gestured to one of the sofas.
It couldn’t hurt to sit, so she complied. The couch was firm beneath her bottom, but its leather was supple. What appeared hard had a softer side. Mark sat next to her, his knee touching hers, his face serious. This was a date, for goodness’ sake, and he was treating her like a recalcitrant schoolgirl called to the principal’s office. She felt a tingle between her thighs.
He surprised her by taking her hand. His fingers were warm as he stroked her palm, igniting more shivers up her arm. He kissed her hand, and her heart fluttered. Beneath his stern expression she spied desire, confirmed by his next words.
“I’m very attracted to you,” he said. “You’re a beautiful woman inside and out. I respect your spirit, your drive, your ambition. You turn me on—and you infuriate me. Like your behaviour this evening.”
She opened her mouth to tell him she regretted her actions, but he shook his head. “Let me speak. I’ve learned something about myself over the years, in my marriage. I need to be the man in the relationship, the one who leads, who sets the pace, who decides what’s acceptable and what’s not.”
“You want to dominate.”
“I wouldn’t describe it quite that way, but I won’t quibble over your use of the word. I want you to express your feelings. In fact, I insist on it. But the manner in which you do so must be respectful. You were rude tonight. To me, and especially to Liz.”
She already regretted her behaviour with Elizabeth. Chalk it up to the potency of the Bottom Burner, the stress of dealing with Bethany’s passive-aggressive shenanigans, and the shock of finding out the truth about Mark— she’d overreacted. But she wasn’t going to admit that to him. Not now.
“I was blindsided,” she said.
“I understand why you see it that way, but the fact is, I deliberately made an effort to be very open and honest with you from the start. I brought you to Rod and Cane so you would know the kind of man I am and what I expect. That’s why I’m going to be very blunt right now. Our relationship will be a domestic discipline one.”
Stephanie snorted. “It astounds me that you would assume we would have any relationship, let alone a domestic discipline one!”
“Denial doesn’t make it any less so. We’ve gone out twice. And you came back to my condo with me. We’ve started something, Stephanie. And because the beginning sets the precedent for the rest of the relationship, I’m asking for your permission to spank you tonight.”
His audacity, his unrepentant sexism caused her jaw to drop, while quivery, almost sexual warmth kindled down low and spread. She pictured herself laid out over his lap as he smacked her bottom, and her knees started to shake. Something crazy deep inside whispered for her to submit. It was akin to staring down a precipice and wondering what it would be like to jump. She tried to pull away from him, but he maintained his hold. “Spank me, my ass!” she whipped out.
Amusement lent a slight curve to his lips. “Generally that’s how it occurs, although on occasion I may administer a few smacks to your pussy.”

ReplyDeleteenjoyed the interview and the range of questions. A feminist giving up control. perhaps she'll feel relief to not have to be in control of everything at all times. I'd gladly give up control of making dinner every night...
