You're a very pretty girl.”

She shrugged. “Yeah? So?”

He adjusted his white hat, still meeting her eyes. “So you don't have to do that to get attention.”

Lindsey frowned, snapping her legs together and sitting straight up. “Do what?”

You know what.”

What are you all dressed up for
a parade or something?” Lindsey squinted at him and saw he was wearing a name tag: Lieutenant Zachary Davis.

I'm a recruiter.”

For what?” Lindsey snorted, looking him up and down. Even the man's shoes were white! “The Pillsbury Dough Boy?!”

He raised an eyebrow in her direction. “The U.S. Navy.”

So you're... what... a sailor?”

On a nuclear submarine, but yes.” He cocked his head at her. “Do you have any interest in the Navy?”

She rolled her eyes. “Only if we're at war.”

We are.”

Yeah, well... not here we're not.”

So what are you interested in...Lindsey?”

He'd obviously been paying attention. She leaned forward, putting her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands. “Sex... Zach.”

Is that all?”

No...” She glanced over at the secretary, who was rifling through papers at her desk, but clearly listening to them. “I also like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.”

About the book:

Leah and Erica have been best friends and have gone to the same Catholic school since just about forever. Leah spends so much time with the Nolans--just Erica and her handsome father now, since Erica's mother died--that she's practically part of the family. When the girls find something naughty under Mr. Nolan's bed, their strict, repressive upbringing makes it all the more exciting as they begin their sexual experimentation. Leah's exploration presses deeper, and eventually she finds herself in love for the first time, torn between her best friend and her best friend's father.
NOTE TO READERS: This story appeared in another, now rather infamous book of mine (UNDER MR. NOLAN'S BED). This tale, previously titled Plaid Skirt Confessions, is a slightly less naughty, but no less sexy re-telling of those events--updated and redressed for your reading pleasure with an ending that may leave you a little more satisfied.
Warnings: This title contains erotic situations, lesbian sex, sex toys, and also makes mention of pornography, salmon, amusement parks, chocolate covered strawberries, brownies (as well as girl scouts), plaid skirts, naughty uses for confessionals and some sacrilegious humor.

Did she go home?” I whispered, conscious of Erica sleeping in the other room.
He swallowed and shook his head. His eyes were pleading with me, trying to tell me something, but I couldnt understand. “No. Shes sleeping in my bed.”
Why?” I felt tears stinging my eyes and I willed them not to fall. “What did I do?”

He sighed, closing his eyes and running a hand through his hair. “Oh Leah. Nothing. Everything. I dont know.”
Do you really like her?” I whispered, blinking fast and taking a step toward him. He didnt move back, and we were almost belly to belly. “Is she…is she what you want?”

He opened his eyes and looked down at me, arms hanging at his sides, head down. He looked defeated. “No.”
Then why?” I hissed, shoving at his chest with the flat of my palm. “You asked her out again! You cooked her dinner! You slept with her! Why?”

I dont know!” He shook his head. “Why did you do what you did? Putting the magazines and videos on my bed? Was it supposed to scare her off?”
I sighed, crossing my arms. “That was Ericas idea, not mine.“Erica?” He frowned.
I shrugged, acting like I didnt care if he believed me. “This isnt fair.”
No,” he admitted, moving forward a little, lifting my chin. “Its really not.”

I just want to know why.” I met his eyes. I felt my chin quivering in his hand and tried to stop it, but I couldnt. “Please just tell me why.”
You want to know why?” His eyes flashed in the dimness, moving over my face. “Fine, Ill tell you why. For the same reason I was sitting here at one in the morning, waiting for you.”

I stared up at him, eyes wide.
He shook his head, looking pained. “I cant stop thinking about you, Leah. Everywhere I go, everything I do, there you are. I cant get you out of my head.”
My throat and chest tightened at his words and I nodded. I knew exactly how he felt.

I thought…” He swallowed, his hand moving down my neck, over my shoulder, his gaze following the curve there. “I thought that if I moved on, I could stop this crazy thinking. This feeling I have for you…”What feeling?” I pressed against him. “Tell me.”Leah…” He whispered my name, using his thumb to rub over my lips. “I took her to bed tonight, yes, I did. I fucked her senseless, until I couldnt see straight—” His words shot arrows into my heart and I felt the sting of them in my chest. “And every time I closed my eyes, I saw your face.” He pressed me back toward the counter with the weight of his body. “It wasnt her I was touching or kissing or fuckingit was you, Leah. Every minute I was with her, I was wishing it was you.”

Oh god.” I reached up and put my arms around his neck and pulled his mouth down to mine.

It was like sinking into something dark and warm and soft, the safest place Id ever been.

Author Interview & Book Review: Wuthering Nights - IJ Miller

About the book:
(Description from Goodreads.com)
Romantics everywhere have been enthralled by Emily Bronte's classic novel of the tragic love between beautiful, spirited Catherine Earnshaw and dark, brooding Heathcliff. The restrained desire between these two star-crossed lovers has always smoldered on the page. And now it ignites into an uncontrollable blaze.

In WUTHERING NIGHTS, writer I.J. Miller reimagines this timeless story to reveal the passion between Catherine and Heathcliff--in all its forbidden glory.

Set against the stark, raw beauty of the English moors, Heathcliff, an abandoned orphan, recognizes his soulmate in wild, impulsive Catherine, the only woman who can tame his self-destructive nature. And Catherine cannot deny the all-consuming desire she feels for him, despite his low birth. Together they engage in a fiery affair--one that will possess them, enslave them, and change their destinies forever...
Review:
I have to be honest when I read that Wuthering Heights had an erotic re-telling I wasn't to pleased as I dislike the way classics get turned into something there not! The Brontë sisters are very close to my heart and I love all their books which is why I hate when characters get changed... as it's not the way the original authors has written them so why do some feel the need to change them?
With them thoughts and feelings I found Wuthering Nights to be an enjoyable read and I am so glad I took the time to read it. I am looking forward to reading the authors other works as they sound utterly brilliant! :)
About the Author:

I.J. Miller is the author of five, distinct, literary, erotic works of fiction: SEESAW was translated into two languages, with over 130,000 copies in print; WHIPPED appeared in both English and German; SEX AND LOVE, a collection of short stories, made its debut in the summer of 2011; CLIMBING THE STAIRS, a novella, was released just a year later. Millers latest novel, WUTHERING NIGHTS, is an erotic retelling of Emily Brontes classic, Wuthering Heights, and is published by the Grand Central Publishing imprint of Hatchette Books. It is available now as an e-book and as a trade paperback both online and in bookstores. The audio book is due out July 16. Miller has a Master of Fine Arts from the American Film Institute and has taught creative writing and screenwriting at the university level.

Author Interview:

1, Can you share with readers your latest news?
This past July the audio version of WUTHERING NIGHTS came out, available for download or in a ten CD set. The British actress Joy Pratt did an amazing job with her rendition, her change in accents and voice, and the book became even more alive for me, as if I was listening to a film version of my story. She has been getting great reviews, including a starred one in Publisher
s Weekly.
2, What made you interested in doing a modern re-telling of Wuthering Heights
I had actually done a proposal to do an erotic mashup of a Dickens novel. The publisher liked it but asked if I could do Wuthering Heights instead. What a marvelous choice! Heathcliff is surely the original tragic, alpha male hero and his love story with Catherine is truly intense. It lent itself perfectly to an erotic interpretation.
3, What genre do you prefer writing and why?
I just like tell an interesting literary story. Because some of my work has strong sexual content I tend to get put into the category of literary erotica.
4, Who designed the cover of your novel?
The art department at Hachette Books. They did a wonderful job. My contribution was to suggest that they make the womans face lighter so the red of the ribbon stood out more.
5, What is your favourite food to snack on when writing?
I dont eat while I write. As a matter of fact I rarely even take a break for lunch and quite often go six or seven hours straight...from breakfast to dinner. Im not that good about getting back to work if I take a break.
6, Which authors books would you recommend?
Im a big fan of Junot Diaz and Philip Roth.
7, (Finish this sentence) A key bit of advice I'd give to aspiring authors would be__________
Dont write about something thats like something you read or saw on TV, but write about what you know, write about something that allows you an original and fresh perspective. Also, never give up your dreams. If you continue to write, despite rejection, you will always get better. If you have passion it will be revealed on the page. Take pleasure from the process, not just the reaction to what youve written.
8, What do you have in store for readers in the future?
Im very excited about a New Adult, erotic romance, coming of age book that Ive just completed. Its about a college girl taken on a wonderful journey of self-discovery by her English professor. Not only is she awakened sexually, but she begins to understand the difference between love and gratitude and that before you can have love there must exist a strong sense of intimacy, vulnerability, and trust.

Book Excerpt:

Just before the light of dawn, not long after Nelly had left his bedside, the dark figure of Heathcliff moved swiftly along the moors. He carried nothing, for he owned nothing. He wore no shirt, for the one he possessed, a bloody mess, was left in the barn. He soon arrived at Black Rock Cragge, surveyed the surrounding landscape of the place he called home since arriving from Liverpool. To the north, was Thrushcross Grange. To the south, was Wuthering Heights. To the east, first light of day was about to break, but there was only a slight clearness above the horizon. The rest of the sky was a charcoal black of storm clouds.
Heathcliff stood, shirtless, at the edge of the precipice, fifty feet above the pool and sharp pointed rocks where Catherine and he had sealed their vow, arms rising up to the heavens, palms turning outward, as he welcomed the tempest.
The storm came rattling over the moors in full fury. The hard rain struck his face. There was a violent wind, as well as thunder, and a bolt of lightning revealed a twisted smile on his face.
He had listened to his beloved speak of the many ways she loved another.
He had heard his darling say that to marry him would degrade her.
He had heard his most venerated speak words that violated their sacred vow.
He had allowed a cowardly bully to have his way with him.
He had endured the pompous and shallow Linton family separating him from his treasure as if he were trash to be tossed to the pigs.
He knew now that he could have had his way with Catherine at any time: in the garret on Christmas night, during their stolen moments in the fields, if he had wanted to take her the way he had Nelly this very eve and that she would have been powerless to resist the strength in his hands, the fire in his eyes, the hunger in his mouth, the forceful strength between his legs.
Even now….If he wanted her.
But after all that had happened tonight he could not see one, single, solitary way to have Catherine in the truest of forms. He could love her as Heathcliff: falling to his knees for the chance to place his lips upon her feet, rising each day simply to rest his eyes upon her loveliness, baring his soul just to receive her simplest of touches. But she needed more, much more. She needed Edgar as well. And though the lad was as spineless as a worm, he had the fair skin and blue eyes of a gentleman, the costume and manners of a man of dignified birth, the wealth and station of someone who could fulfill Catherine with the luxury of life at the Grange and the noble status of being called his wife.
What was the point if he could not have her completely and she would not be satisfied with all that was him?
But should they all be absent of the suffering that ripped through his soul as the storm whipped through the firs on the moors?
NAY! shouted Heathcliff to the sky, daring God to strike him down now if he so planned.
But as bolts of lightning came and went, from sky to ground, all around the moors, there was nary a flicker at Black Rock Cragge.
Then a curse be on them! cried Heathcliff. “A curse for a thousand years and more. I place a curse on the Earnshaws and Lintons, for all the pettiness you inspire, the meanness of spirit you invoke, and because you would not allow two people to love in the pure righteous way that lay buried in their hearts.
A loud, angry bolt came crashing down, but it did not strike Heathcliff and he continued to smile.

A curse on all those Earnshaws and Lintons living and all those to be born! For as I stand here on the cragge, as long as I draw breath, and even from the hell where I will surely land, I will reap pleasure from seeing each and every one of you suffer!
Despite the rain pounding his face, Heathcliff let out an horrific, bone-chilling, bloodcurdling scream that paled the death cry of any wounded animal, a scream that startled awake and went down the spine of each Earnshaw and Linton like a razor splitting a soul in twoalthough they could not be sure it was human, animal, or just the storm they had hearddisturbing deeply every last one of them, including the baby curled inside Mrs. Earnshaw.
And then he jumped.

Author Interview:

1. Thanks so much for joining us! How are you?

Im great, Kerry-Ann, and thank you for having me! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all the time and effort youve put into this book blog tour and the release blast that was held on August 30th and 31st. Youve gone above and beyond, and I really appreciate it. You rock!

2. Can you share with readers your latest news?

So far, I have two novels out in ebook formatthe first book, The Last Timekeepers and the Arch of Atlantis (released May 2012), and the prequel of the series, Legend of the Timekeepers (released August 2013). I also have the second book in the series completed tentatively called, The Last Timekeepers and the Dark Secret, but theres the fun job of reworking it into another characters point-of-viewso guess what Ill be working on this fall?

3. Whats the best thing a reader has said to you?

It was from one of my very first reviews. A reader on Goodreads posted, “This is a very well written book...loved it! Took me back to the days when I couldn't get enough of the Half Magic books by Edward Eager! Loved the kids and the grownups in the story! Nice to see a good, strong heroine, who also learned several lessons along the way. I cannot wait for next adventure...”

4. What book have you gained the most knowledge from?

My newest book, Legend of the Timekeepers. It was by far the hardest book Ive written because I didnt have any historical parameters to go by. It was pure fantasy, so I had to write out of my comfort zone. The only historical references I could go by was the Greek philosopher Platos description of Atlantis in his two dialogues (the way he wrote out his philosophy) called Timaeus and Critias, and information from Edgar Cayce, a well-known psychic during the early to mid 20th century, who channeled peoples past lives. The editors I was assigned with on this book pushed me hard to recreate the myth of Atlantis in my own words, and I learned so much from their guidance and support.

5. Where do you get most of your inspiration from?

Both the idea and inspiration for The Last Timekeepers series came to me through a dream I had around 1998. In this dream, I saw seven arches, and there were seven people (five kids, two adults) with crystals in their hands, walking up to these arches. It definitely had an Indiana Jones feel to it. At that time, I was writing a paranormal romance, and had no intention of writing a middle-grade/young adult book. But this idea kept growing in my mind, and wouldnt leave, like some mystical force pushing you from behind. So, I thought Id challenge myself and write a novela seriesthat would appeal to my son, who at the time was the target age of my audience. Ive always loved the time travel genre, so I imagined the arches I saw vividly in my dream as time portals. It was a no-brainer for me.

6. Do you have any advice to share with readers?

Im not quite sure what you mean by advice, but I always tell people who have clear goals and dreams in mind to never stop investing in yourself. Invest in the best. My readers deserve the best of what I have to offer them. And to say my road to publication has been a long haul is an understatement. Its been an uphill climb with peaks and valleys but well worth it when I finally signed my first publishing contract with Musa Publishing in September, 2011. I was determined to be a published author, and I never gave up the dream. So dont ever get up on yours!

7. Which author would you recommend and why in 140 characters?

Wanna learn to write like a master? Invest in Stephen Kings memoir, On Writing. Read it till your eyes bleed, then pick up a pen and write.

8. What do you have in store for readers in the future?

Ive planned for a total of eleven books in The Last Timekeepers series, which includes the prequel, Legend of the Timekeepers. I have also signed on with literary agency, Walden House (Books & Stuff) in December 2012 to represent another young adult series Ive created about teens with psychic abilities entitled, Mysterious Tales from Fairy Falls, so I believe Ill be one busy gal!

Book Review & Author Guest Post: Briar Rose by Jana Oliver

Title: Briar Rose
Author: Jana Oliver
Publisher: Macmillan Children's Books
Published: September 2013
Rating: ★★★★★
Format: Paperback
My Copy: I received a copy of this novel from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

About the Book:

Briar Rose believes in fairy tales . . . And now, because of a family curse, she’s living one. Doomed to fall asleep for one hundred years on her sixteenth birthday, Briar has woken up in the darkest, most twisted fairy tale she could ever have dreamed of – miles away from the safe, boring small-town life that she has left behind. Briar must fight her way out of the story, but she can’t do it alone. She always believed in handsome princes, and now she’s met one her only chance is to put her life in his hands, or there will be no happy ever after and no waking up . . .

Book Review:

First before I start typing the review can I just mention how utterly beautiful the cover of Briar Rose actually is.. It's breath taking! :)

 17256087

The thing I love most about the authors creations is she writes kick assing lead heroines! This may be "a dark and twisty re-telling of Sleeping Beauty" as the author describes it but hell has more chance of freezing over before Jana Oliver writes about the "princess" being saved by her "prince" then ride off together in the sunset after he fights a terrifying dragon and she prances about in a pretty dress... Uh huh! So not gonna happen!

So what exactly does this book entail? Lets just say Briar Rose is NOT going to sit back and watch her life pass by while waiting for a prince to rescue her... She's going to fight instead! (In true Jana Oliver style!)

The authors writing is magically obsessive. She creates a world you can't forget and writes her books a way your unable to put them down. Being honest I was worried I wouldn't enjoy this book as much as her Demon Trappers series but I am so thrilled I took the plunge to read it.. or more like THANK YOU Macmillan for sending it and possibly publishing the best YA read of 2013! ;)

I love Briar, Joshua, Reena, Ruric, and even Pat, who proved people can change if given half a chance.

There's only one problem towards the authors writing which I will always tell her.. She writes in such a way it leaves readers literally craving more! :)

Author Guest Post:

My Dream Cast
for Briar Rose

Its always fun to imagine that Holly wood will offer to make a movie of one of my books, and to dream up a cast of actors to take those roles. So with Briar Rose fresh off the presses, lets see who I think would be great for those coveted roles.
Briar Rose
Just like Riley Blackthorne in my Demon Trappers Series, it is WAY hard for me to pick an actress for my lead gal.
However, Ellen Page caught my attention as she has the wide-eyed innocence Briar possesses, at least at the beginning of the book. She is considerably older than Briar, but I suspect she could pull off the role.

Reena Hill

Nicole Beharie is my pick for the sassy Reena Hill. Her acting experience is impressive and shes really pretty.

Patterson Daniels

Providing he can portray Pats arrogance and insecurity properly, Im thinking Devon Gearhart would do just fine. Hes a local Atlanta lad and right about Pats age, so he gets extra props for that.

Joshua Quinn

Devon Bostick has the dreamy Joshua look I was hoping for. Hes a talented young actor with a number of television shows and movies to his credit.

Or

Paul Butcher, who also has a number of TV shows and movies in his resume.

Ruric

This one was easy: fate ensured that I met the perfect actor during my time in Australia at SupaNova. Eoin Macken (best known for his role as Gwaine on Merlin) is my pick for Ruric. He has boyishness to him, a rich sense of humor, but can be a badass when he needs to be. And of course, hes a very talented actor. Hands down, this Irish gent would make a great Ruric (and he already knows how to ride a horse and wield a sword!) LOL

The Regent

Given the way this tyrant presents herself, you wouldnt see the actress behind her mask for much of the movie. That requires incredible talent to pull off and Im thinking Claudia Black has the range to handle the role if her work from Stargate and Farscape are any indication. And her rich, throaty voice would be ideal.
