Over the 5 years I've been blogging I have had pretty epic (to me) blog posts on A Bookish Redhead so this is a chance to take a glance over and read some of the forgotten posts from the archives. P.S It's going to be every Friday (but not EVERY Friday)Todays Forgotten Fridays an Author Q&A with Lily Harlem originally published in 2015.
First things first, how are you? I hope your Summer is off to a great start! (It is Summer right?!)
Thank you so much for inviting me to your blog today, it’s great to be here. All is good in my world of erotic romance and Wales has had some gorgeous sunny days. Mr H and I have been out and about to the beach with the dogs, we took a trip into beautiful mid-Wales to visit friends and caught a show in Cardiff for my birthday – The Bodyguard!
Can you share with readers your latest bookish news?
The best way to find out all my book news is to check out my summer newsletter. I’ve had lots going on as usual and you’ll find details of my latest release Toy Boy as well as freebies.
~ What book challenged you the most while writing?
Oh, good question. Probably The Glass Knot, but that isn’t because the plot or characters gave me problems but because it was my first self-published novel. I had to not just write it but organise editing and the cover, plus get to grips with publishing, marketing, royalties and reviews. It was a really good experience though and since then I’ve self-published several more successful novels.
What has been your most rewarding moment as an author?
Every time I get a good review I have that ‘it was worth the effort’ feeling. It’s so satisfying to know that you’ve transported someone into your imagination, your world for a while and if they’ve enjoyed the experience and the characters feel real then that’s success. I’m also feeling particularly proud that – as I write this - my latest BDSM novel In Expert Hands has 16 reviews on Amazon/Amazon UK and they’re all 5*. I adored writing that book, the billionaire hero Kane Ward is so sexy and dominant but with a loving patient side that makes him super hot. I liked him so much I gave him a brother, Taylor Ward, you can find his short BDSM story in the The Brit Babes anthology Sexy Just Got Rich.
Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Yes loads! Check out the dedicated page on my website.
To you, what's the most important part of writing an Erotica book?
Everything! Though if I had to pick one thing it would be the quality of the writing. It has to be smooth and technically correct and flow with the characters voice so that I’m not drawn from the story by errors.
Who are you favourite authors and why?
Easy, that would be The Brit Babes of which I am 1/8. We’re a group of British based authors who love to write erotica and erotic romance. We hang out on line together and sometimes manage to meet up for wine and gossip. I read all of their stuff and enjoy it. Do check out our site, we have great guests, contests and freebies.
What do you do to unwind or relax?
I spent a long time living in London with a busy nursing job in an Accident and Emergency department, now we’re in the countryside and even though we’ve been here quite a few years now I’m still reveling in the peace and quiet and the space and freedom. I adore walking, seeing new sights, catching glimpses of wild animals. I like to paint too and for exercise I run and horse-ride. Catching up with my friends is always a treat, we go to the local pub or into the city to a wine bar and gossip – though they’re used to me going awol for a while if my head is in writing mode!
What top three books are you packing this summer for the beach or your holidays?
Kristina Lloyds new one, Undone, her work is always a thrill. Madeline Ellis Anything But Vanilla and Jenny Kane’s Abi’s House, all books that I know will hit the spot.
Are there any book/writing challenges you'd like to try out which you haven't?
I’ve just ventured into making some of my novels audio books so that’s still a new project. So far it’s just The Silk Tie (also in ebook) that’s been made into 8 hours of steamy listening but I’m planning on Scored and Good Cop, Bad Cop also being audio books by the end of the year.
Are you currently working on anything at the minute? Can you tell us a little bit about it?
I’m just doing some tweaks and edits to Rule Breaker which will be out in November. I adore this story, if Breathe You In is my super sweet and sexy, emotionally charged romance then Rule Breaker is the opposite end of the spectrum, as the name suggests it breaks rules, flirts with what’s morally acceptable and is a rip-roaringly erotic ride that starts off behind bars. I adore the bad ass hero, Miller, he’s sexy and strong yet has an Achilles’ heel. If you’d like to be reminded of when Rule Breaker hits the shelves please sign up for my newsletter and I’ll jog your memory with an email nearer the time.
Is there anything you'd like to share with readers?
I also write GBLT erotic romance, particularly MM. My latest man-love novel is Dark Warrior and is set in Kenya. Writing a story set in Africa was great fun, at the end of each day I felt like I’d been on the dusty plains with the lions, zebras and snakes! If you grab Dark Warrior from the publisher, Totally Bound it comes with a bonus sexy scene, autograph and trailer. I hope you’ll check out Malik and Leo’s sexy story.
Drink: It’s between tea and white wine – depending on what time of the day it is!
Dessert: Anything with chocolate.
Guilty Pleasure: Candles, I LOVE candles and nearly always have a scented candle lit in the evening.
Shop: ‘Leeks’ which is a Welsh shop that sells everything you could ever want for the house.
Animal: Ohhh, hard one. I have a horse, dogs, cats, rabbits and I feed all the birds that come into the garden. I can’t pick, I’d hurt feelings.
