~ Can you share with readers your latest news?

~ Tell us one thing about yourself that's shaped you as a writer?
Well I began writing from a hospital bed. When I was diagnosed with cancer I needed something to focus on. So I began to write. My first novel ‘Designer Genes’ was born! Writing has become my solace and my passion. I couldn’t imagine not doing it now.

~ Where do you get most of your inspiration from?
Life! I hope my characters are identifiable with. It makes my heart sing when people write and tell me they recognise elements of themselves in my fictional characters. I never use ‘real’ people or their stories, I simply try to create people we could all see ourselves knowing.

~ Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Write about things that interest you. If you find it boring so will others! Equally, if you feel drawn in by a character or story line, so too will your readers. Also be honest. Stay true to yourself and your own voice. Don’t try to be like someone else. We’re all unique and that should stand out in what you’re writing.

~ Which song best suits your writing personality?
That totally depends on the book or character I’m dealing with at the time. Some of my characters are funny some are having a hard time some are living the high life, so I guess the songs could swing from Katy Perry’s ‘Fire Work’ to Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I will survive’ to Beyonce ‘If I were a boy’…

~ What has been your most rewarding experience since becoming an author?
Apart from seeing my name on the cover of a book – which I will never tire of – it has to be the amazing letters and emails I get from readers. It’s so humbling and such a privilege.
~ Are your characters experiences based on your own or someone you know?
Designer Genes mirrored my own story, but the character of Emily certainly isn’t like me! Apart from that – no. I don’t use real people in my books.

~ Where is you favourite place to write?
I recently moved to an office in my home town of Bray. It’s a lovely quiet space where I can really concentrate on what I’m writing. I love it.

~ Who is your favourite author and why?
I have lots. It might sound like a total cliché but I love the Irish ladies and always have. Cathy Kelly, Marian Keyes, Sinead Moriarty, Claire Allan, Zoe Miller, Sheila O’Flanagan, Patricia Scanlan… I could go on and on! I love the fact that they write about a world that I understand and also live in…

~ Is there anything you'd like to say to readers?
Thank you for reading my books and sending me amazing letters and supporting me. I hope that you all enjoy reading ‘Perfect Wives’ as much as I enjoyed writing it.
