Phaedra Morgan is one of the best race engineers in Formula 1. She’s a math prodigy with dazzling skill, cutting wit, and no patience for matters of the heart. Of course, her job would be a lot easier if she didn’t keep butting heads with their team’s cocky and infuriatingly hot new driver.

Cosmin Ardelean is intense and committed, but as famous for his off-track romantic exploits as his on-track wizardry. Yet his devil-may-care façade conceals a haunted past. When the pair strikes up a secret—and thrillingly forbidden—“arrangement” to improve their communication and bond of trust, the heat of their attraction turns to something more . . .

But no secret stays hidden for long in the racing world, and soon things are spinning out of control. With everything on the line, will they be able to strip away all their defenses and go full throttle for a chance at love?

Double Apex is the first book I’d read since 2024, and I loved it. It also opened up a whole racing interest for me this year, with so many recent releases featuring motorsport.

Phaedra and Cosmin being enemies-to-lovers in this Formula One setting was made better by the seriousness of Phaedra’s job as she wasn’t some damsel needing rescued by a rich driver but a damn Queen setting herself up to run an empire in one of the most prestigious sporting industries.

I loved learning more about racing, what happens behind the scenes, especially Phaedra’s job and what it entails, and how hard she’s worked to prove herself.

The secondary characters, who played such an integral part in their relationship, also played a significant role in their lives. Although some storylines, such as the one with Cosmin’s sister, might be upsetting for some readers, I usually steer clear of that type of content. However, I didn’t know about it before I read it in the book, but I’m still glad I opted to finish the book.

I’m excited for Natalia and Klaus’ story next in Coming in Hot and hope to see more of Cosmin and Phaedra.
